Entering a new decade brings forth new expectations, new hopes. With its advanced pace, the field of computing takes a big share of such expectations and hopes. What are the technologies that have the most potential to shape the field of computing? Is it just artificial intelligence, or should I pay attention to more? This talk has an interactive nature where audience will be asked their opinion on each and every technological prediction. It will also cover what happened in the last few years leading to this decade. The predictions will bear an IEEE bias. The speaker will also present his predictions of the matter. As it may take several years to bring a successful product to the market, now is the right time to think of technologies that have the most potential. This talk should be of interest to computing and technology enthusiasts, as well as entrepreneurs and students looking for monetization and learning opportunities.

About the Speaker

Rasit Onur Topaloglu obtained his B.S. in electrical and electronic engineering from Bogazici University, M.S. in computer science, and Ph.D. in computer engineering from University of California, San Diego. He has worked for companies such as Qualcomm, AMD, and GlobalFoundries, and is currently with IBM. As a senior hardware developer, Rasit focuses on design for manufacturability and design-technology co-optimization. Additionally, he is a program manager responsible for 7nm technology development and Power10 microprocessor design. Rasit has over 60 peer-reviewed publications and 48 issued U.S. patents. He is a 2019 Design Automation Conference Outstanding Innovator. Rasit serves on the IBM Internet of Things patent review board. He is editor of Beyond-CMOS Technologies for Next Generation Computer Design, Springer (2019). Rasit has organized several international workshops, including ACM-sponsored ones on machine learning and quantum computing with over 100 attendees each.  He serves as Chair of the IEEE Mid-Hudson Section and Secretary of ACM Poughkeepsie.
