About the Topic

For the past two years, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) has been drafting, reviewing, and revising Computer Science and Digital Fluency learning standards that will apply to all students in all public schools across the state. Prior to this, NYS had never addressed computer science being taught to all students, and never across all ages, pre-kindergarten through high school. What will be taught? Who will teach it? How will this impact schools? This presentation will consider each of these questions and review the NYSED's development process and implementation plan.

About the Speaker

David Czechowski, a Technology Education Teacher at F. D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park and New York State Master Teacher, has made local, state, and national contributions to K-12 computer science education.  He is a leader of the Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter of the Computer Science Teachers Association, and member of the National Chapter Leadership Committee.  He has trained and mentored educators in over a dozen states.  He was a member of the workgroup that finalized the New York State Education Department's Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards for all New York students in grades pre-kindergarten through high school.
